Tips for Turtle Guard
To easily recover guard:
- Extend leg straight out that is closest to your opponent.
- Sit on top of your other leg and rotate into your opponent.
- Keep your head and neck arched back and protected from Darce’s and Guillotines.
To easily take top side side mount:
- When opponent is on your side, take the knee closest to him and put it on the side of him facing your feet.
- Sit up and rotate your body towards him – take your arm closest to him and rotating it towards your knee.
- This will put him on his back and you on his side.

Tip for Triange Choke – Keep from Getting Stacked
Simple tip: If your opponent is about to stack you, start walking back on your shoulders. This will flatten him out and synch the choke.
You must do this BEFORE he has you stacked.

Triangle From Full Mount
Notes
- Get a very high mount with your knees under his arm pits if possible.
- Wrap up an arm with an overhook and slide your knee towards his head on the same side.
- Get wrist control of the other arm and push it to the matt.
- Sneak your other leg up and over the opposite arm.
- Pull body towards you with overhook and while maintaining wrist control, slide leg under head and cinching the choke.
This is a nice “baiting” move to get it started easily (untried):

Twister Side Control to Head and Arm Choke
Notes
- If the arm is not in a position to turn and put it in front of his face, I can hook it with my right arm spinning across while mounting.
- Once I finish spinning, I will grab the crown to hold the arm above his head.
- Now feed my other arm underneath his neck and grab his armpit to help secure the arm.
- Bump the arm underneath his chin as fast as possible and hug it with the side of your head – your temple to his temple. Once secured, go to knee-on-belly and squeeze and drive the knee.
Another way to get it (untried):

Pop Triangle
Notes
- When you push the wrist through your legs, your leg must open up a bit to make space for the hand, then pull your hand out quick.
- Once hand is through, cross your legs across the back maintaining good head control with opposite hand.
- Grab your right ankle with your hand. This is your new control position. If I bypass this step and go straight to the triangle, I won’t have the correct angle.
- Now use your other leg to rotate to 2 o’clock and cinch the triangle.

Peruvian Necktie
Notes:
- It is important to jump up in one motion if at all possible. Rest your weight on his upper back and then spring to your feet in one motion.
- One of your knees/inner leg must rest up against your arm wrapped around his neck, while the other must land by his hip. Your leg that is over his head should be at a 90 degree angle to his body.
- Fall to the side and put your leg closest to the hip over his back to stop the roll.
- The neck crank and choke is a combination of pushing his head with leg on top of his head and pulling with your arms. Your leg should act like you are kick-starting a motorcycle.

Arm-In Guillotine Choke
Notes:
- Arm should be around the neck so that you don’t see any hairline showing.
- Your legs, when it guard, should be pulling his body up on top of you, while you are forcing his head and chin down with your arm.
- To finish, do a side bend in the direction of the side where his head is. That side bend, along with the squeeze should force the choke.

Arm Triangle Choke
Notes
- If you don’t have long arms (like I do), you may not be able to grab your arm to cinch the choke. Escape your hips to give you that extra reach.
